Frequently Asked Questions
We at The Great NZ Trail Ride would like you to have as much general information as possible to make an informed decision on attending this wonderful event. We have taken the liberty of answering some frequent questions that past and potential participants have been asking.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries other than those found here or elsewhere on this website.

Q. Is this the same horse trek that has been running since 1996?
This Trail Ride is the same concept, however a new look; differently structured organisation and new people running it. Essentially: 'A large group of enthusiasic horse adventurers, sharing a fun adrenalin pumping holiday for the benefit of charity'.

Q. What special equipment will I need?
A. You will only need what you normally ride in however if you don't have a crupper and breastplate these are recommended items, for some of the hill work that will be done.
Also, the ride guide will cover other items that you will need for the camping side of the trail ride.

Q. Will I need extra money for the trail ride?
A. YES, our traditional auction night will see you wanting to bid and part with some hard earned cash, its great fun and some neat items will be available for you to bid for. Also extra cash will be needed for bar, photos, snacks, and spending on rest day.  There will be eftpos available at main marquee.

Q. Will there be vets and farriers onsite?
A. Absolutely, we will have a vet and farrier
at the lunch stops and at all campsites.

Q. Who will look after my car and float, that stays at the base campsite, while we are away?
A. The Great NZ Trail Ride Committee will have security at all campsites to monitor security breaches and curfew breaches. We will be looking at the options for base camp security and more detials will be made available in the ride guide.

Q. Will I get a refund if the event doesn't take place?
A. The event will take place regardless of reaching the limit on numbers. The only time the event would be cancelled is because of a natural or manmade disaster.

As per the registration form, you must notify Trail Ride Co-ordinator (Paki Tuna) in writing and will receive an 80% refund if you pull out before closing date of 20 January; thereafter no refunds will be made.

Q. Will I have access to showers and food?
A. We provide you with hot showers and 3 meals a day whilst you are on the Trail.

Q. Will there be chippies and refreshments available as well as alcoholic and non alcoholic etc?
A. Yes, we will be applying for a SPECIAL BAR LICENCE for this event and munchies and refreshments will be available to buy at cheap prices again. REMEMBER, under age persons WILL NOT be served. ID will be required.

Most campsites will be close to a town and as long as you have access to a transport, going shopping or visiting in downtime are optional.
